Does that look like a foreign language to you?

"Does that look like a foreign language to you?"  That is the question I asked my husband when I showed him our daughter's Trig test.  Cosine, tan, sin, where did all the 'actual' numbers go?  Believe it or not I can remember 9th grade (vividly) and the struggle I had with pre-algebra concepts.  It is so hard to fathom that our child in the same grade is enrolled in Algebra II/Trigonometry with honors and is doing this level of math...let alone understanding it!

The kid has always been a strong math student, but this new level has present some challenges.  She has maintained "B"s all year in math, but she has had some struggles, I was not interested in her having to struggle until the proverbial 'light' came on, so off to find a tutor I went.  Our daughter's math teacher is WONDERFUL, I can't begin to shower enough accolades on this woman, but with classes (35+) in size even for honor classes, there is not enough time for one on one with every student. She put us in touch with a recent AUBURN (War Eagles!) mathematics grad and it has been gravy every sense. They meet twice a week and it really has made a terrific difference.

So, night before last our daughter says "I got my math test back."  "Really, let me see it."  "I'd rather you look the grade up online (to myself...this probably means it didn't go very well.) "ok" I said. A couple stroke of the keys and I was logged into the online parent portal "OH MY LORD", yep that is the moment I had an "OH MY LORD" moment.  She did well, (95) A highest grade in the class on the Trig test well - sweet!

The next night we shared the great news with her tutor.  I said "We were doing our happy dance all over the living room" our daughter with her head down on the table "no we didn't"  I said...I proclaimed as loud as I could "You (tutor) were worth every dime we pay you...in fact you were worth $1,000.00 and hour!"  my follow-up "but please don't get excited 'cause I am not going to pay you that much!"

So, that is how it is going in our household, we (she) is on a TRIG roll and we are excited!
