Attention...Color Guard!

Our daughter has decided to try out for her high school color guard team.  This week she is attending a camp, which runs for (2) hours after school with 'official' try-outs commencing on Monday, April 16. I work with a wonderful lady whose son "A" is the star of the color guard program.  It is amazing to watch him and I can't begin to understand how he can throw those flags that high in the air while running full speed down the football field.

"O" met with him on Sunday for some tips and pointers before starting camp this week.  She was excited to show us how she could march in double time and all the cool moves they were taught. You know our kid is coming from a Cheer background, one where she spent the last (3) years flying off the top of a pyramid, she was the object being tossed into the air. So she was really pumped when she said the coach asked her if she had been involved with Flag or Color Guard before as she had really good form and showed a natural ability.

I have to remember she has been in a small private school for all of her academic life, and as such as had no exposure to large public schools or all the wonderful programs they have to offer.  I asked her where they were practicing yesterday and she said 'inside".  She went on to say "I though they were taking us to the gym so we would have room to spread out.  I was shocked when we entered a room as large as a football field and it turned out to be the band room.  Mom, I could have thrown that flag as hard as I could into the air and I would not have hit the ceiling."  My response, "those are the type of facilities when you attend a high school whose band has placed first in the nation on multiple occasions!".

She was exhausted after camp and (2) hours of additional dance, which happens to fall on Monday nights as well.  However, she was up early this morning, bags packed and ready for another day.  Thank goodness we are finally experience some actual spring weather and not the early preview to summer we have enjoyed over the last (3) weeks.  She will spend the next (2) days inside, but on Thursday they will head out to the Football field.  This is one Ginger I will have to send off with sunscreen, glasses and plenty of water!

Stay tuned...we will let you know how try-outs end!
