Our daughter decided she was going to audition for the Madison City School Talent Extravaganza. She decided on singing and playing I’m yours by Jason Mraz, which was the piece she sang and played at the Madison Street Festival.
This contest was open to all students’ grades 7 – 12th who attend Madison City Schools to include a few of the private schools in the Madison City limits as well. We went online and reserved her audition time and I had her at the school on the 28th of September to “WOW” the judges with her voice and guitar skills.
She was sooo nervous and while she was supposed to be warming up in the choir room she spent most of her time walking the halls as a means to ‘walk off some of her excess energy and nerves! This picture says it all, for someone who always tries to convey the “I got this attitude” you can see her nerves kicking in this photo!
They called her to the stage and she disappeared behind the band room doors. I tried to get up close enough to hear her singing, but was unable to make my way through the crowd of kids and parents who beat me to the doors. After she finished her song I noticed she went into another one this time acappella.
Upon exiting she told me that they told her she sung really well, but they wanted to hear her sing without her guitar as well. So she said she had to break into a chorus of Paramore. They advised they would announce the successful acts the following week.
October 6th – Update: It is official she made the talent show yippee! There were 100+ acts that auditioned to be part of this event and she was one of (30) selected and one of two 9th grade girls chosen. She said she was listening for her name as they were being called in alphabetical order. She said she heard over the intercom “O……Sch…..” when a guy in her 4th block class said “You got in” and she said “how do you know?” He responded with “because they can’t pronounce your last name!” and there you have it she is in!
