Today we hit the fourth snowfall of the season. It didn't roll in until 3pm and like always our daughter's school saw no need to cancel classes despite the decision of all the county school to let out early (10:45).
I had to pick her up as I was driving my mother's car (it is AWD) as my bug isn't to snow friendly. The flakes were large and I got her home without a lot of drama. I am sorry to say my return trip to work was not the same.
The street department laid down salt yesterday, but we had plenty of moisture to negate those efforts. So when the snow rolled in today it was one big giant mess. I along with the rest of my co-workers left work at 4:15...I finally made it home at 5:38pm, mind you I only live a sum total of 6 miles from work.
It was a "white knuckle" ride for me the entire way. I realize 2 - 3 inches of snowfall and some icy rain shouldn't create this much drama, however with below freezing temps and no road prep it makes for a miserable commute. There was enough slush on the roads you were no longer able to see the lane markings and forget visibility (check at the picture below)

I am glad to say I made it home safely. As for tomorrow schools are closed, yes even our daughter's, and I will have to reserve my decision to go into work until I get a gander at the roads. So for now, I am heading downstairs to park myself in front of the fire place, watch the latest episode of Vampire Diaries and drink some hot chocolate. It is the perfect ending to a horrible day!
