Beware of the Bear!

Today my husband had a few free hours to trek about in the land of the midnight sun (Alaska) actually they were returning from a road trip they had taken to an inlet and glacier (name unknown). On their way back to Anchorage they spied a mama bear and her cubs meandering along the side of the woods. His team elected him for the position of "point and shoot" camera man trying to persuade him to step outside the vehicle so he could get a better shot. Thank goodness common sense prevailed and he elected to take whatever shot he could get from the safety of the truck as he wasn't 100% confident ole' mama wouldn't eat him if she got just a little hacked off.

In addition to this photo, he sent me one of a sign they have posted in the area. Grab the title "Don't Have a Bad Bear Day". It is a helpful hints if you will for the six different types of bears you may come into contact with...you know the wary bear, the curious bear and lets not forget the I am going to eat you because you are there bear!

I don't know about you, but I think I would want to be very familiar with this sign before entering any area or park where bears are freely milling about. I would hate to have to ask him for a "time-out" why I took a few minutes to discern what his/her mood was at the moment and then act accordingly!

All joking aside today alone he saw a pod of Beluga whales, moose, bears and much more. Considering I get over the top excited when I spot a ground hog or deer, I think Alaska just move to the top of my list as my "have to see" vacation destinations.
