It was with a French accent

I received an e-mail from our daughter's English One teacher at the beginning of the week reminding all parents that the kids would be participating in a spelling bee and the top four students would advance to the school wide contest, which would be held later in the week.
It had been a few days since I received the e-mail and I asked our daughter how she was doing or had done in the preliminary rounds. She said " I did ok Mom." Now our daughter is no stranger to Spelling Bee's and for most of elementary years she prevailed at the class level and was strong enough to advance to the school wide competition.
I asked if she was going to make it to the school wide event to which she said "not this year". I asked her what the word was that "tripped" her up. She said, well I got the word philanthropy and I spelled it right. I said "that is great, but again what word did you mess up on?" She said, well the guy said encore and so I spelled it. "Spelled it how I asked?" A...N...C...H...O...R was her response. I said "that is anchor like a boat anchor not encore" to which she responded, well that is the way it sounded to me and so I spelled it anchor but I spelled it and said it with a french accent, which made it encore.
I swear I think she is practicing to be a stand up comic. One can only hope that on the evening of her shows opening the audience won't be screaming "anchor" but encore!
