Well, the projects have starting rolling in (check out the photo to the left) and one of the first was for our daughter's science class. They had to construct a model of a cell, extra points were awarded for "thinking outside the box".
Our daughter decided to construct an animal cell. Here is what we used for the main cell parts.
Cell membrane - ziploc take away bowl
Cytoplasm - Super freeze styling gel
Golgi complex - yellow pipe cleaner
Nucleus - orange ball with modeling clay wrapped around it.
Chromosomes - Black marks with marker
Lysosomes - Green mini pom poms
Mitochondria - Yellow mini pom poms
Endoplasmic Reticulum - Blue fishing worm ( head removed hee hee!)
Ribosomes - small black glass beads
Of course no project is complete without a report of some type, in this case it involved the definitions and having the students draw a correlation between the cell of their choice, the individual parts and a school - yikes!
I won't keep you guessing she got an "A", with only a slight reduction in points for the having the incorrect cell shape. My response....it is a MODEL for goodness sakes, if they wanted the real thing, we should have slapped a cell on a microscope slide and called it a day!
