Our daughter had to pay a visit to her oral surgeon on Friday, as she was scheduled to have four teeth removed. This isn't the first time we have sought dental intervention to aid in the removal of baby teeth, as she seem to suffer with the same issue I did ( her mom) whereby the roots of our baby teeth just refuse to dissolve.
The first baby teeth were removed by her dentist, however this extraction involved molars, and he felt she would be better off having an oral surgeon remove the teeth.
As luck would have it ( NOT) she does not weigh enough to be placed under anesthesia, so she had to endure the procedure with laughing gas and Novocaine. So I snapped this picture right before they applied her "gas" mask and began numbing the surface.
I assumed my rightful spot and perched myself upon the waiting room couch. It was a mere (21) minutes later, when the doctor came to get me to tell me I could go back and see her. She had been really brave, as the doctor told me the roots on the molars had shown absolutely no sign of deteriorating. In addition, he said in their present condition, they would have easily stayed in for another (2) years - UGH! He said she wasn't any more pleased than he was by the time they hit the third tooth removal, and it was then that I was really thankful that I had always been put "under" for these types of procedures.
He was really kind to her and took the time to tell her how well she had done and hugged her before her departure. In addition he called to check on her three times that evening, with the last call coming in around 9pm.
She is doing really well despite the large holes, which required stitches to close. She came running to me and her grandmother yesterday to proclaim that she only had (6) upper teeth and four giant holes. She said, "these are going to have to heal soon, as I can't live on just grits, mash potatoes and ice cream!" Her speech is a little off and she says her "tongue wants to slip out the holes on the side", but I have assured her this new sound will be temporary.
What a trooper! I have promised that there will be no more teeth extractions without anesthesia. So it will be our mission to 'fatten her up' so to speak, but in reality we are just looking for her to hit (75) pounds, so she won't have these issues in the future!
On the plus side, I have it on good authority that the Tooth Fairy left her $20.00, and a card that stated
"Anyone who went through what you did to have four teeth removed was entitled to premium tooth pay, along with a giant bag of all your favorite candies to be eaten upon healing!" That Tooth Fairy sure has come along way since my day!
