National Junior Honor Society

We were up at the crack of dawn this morning as Miss Thing had her first National Junior Honor Society Meeting scheduled for 7:15am. She was inducted into the organization in her 8th grade year at her private school, but we were unsure as to whether her membership would transfer over or if she would have to reapply. We attended the parent/student information meeting last week and were elated to find out she was accepted with no issue! This is a tough group to 'hang' with, and I am positive there is more rigor to this organizations membership than at her previous school. The organization is based on the student's outstanding performance in scholarship, service, leadership and character. It is first and foremost a service organizations, but make no mistake they are serious about their members grades and GPA's. For instance, they examine your grade point average at the end of each semester, this isn't any 'one and done', once in you are set. In addition, the required GPA is set higher than the national requirement of 85 for admittance and sustained membership. This chapter requirement is 93.7. They stated they set it at 93.7, because the National Honor Society chapter requires a 95.0 gpa for admittance and membership - wow! This morning they will speak to them about their upcoming service projects. She will be required to perform a minimum of (6)hours service during the semester in addition to maintaining her gpa. All I can say is Kudos to the kid for making the cut and Bless Her Heart for her dedication to the organization and academic rigor required to be a part of it! We are very proud of her(bet you couldn't tell).
