Ok...check out the chair in the attached picture it is located in the right hand corner and while you can't see all of it you can see enough to get an idea with respect to our design dilemia. Typically a traditional household at least when it comes to pattern and design choices my mother and daughter fell in love with this chair and it's circle pattern.
I liked the colors ( not sold on the circles) but gave into their desire to "have" this chair. So, we purchased it and it was delivered and here it sat. The issue what type of carpet to use with this chair. We have been to Lowes, Home Depot, along with several rug/floor stores. We have tried numerous "traditional" rugs which had the right colors only to be disappointed in the way it looked against this chair.
On Saturday we headed to a local furniture store, which was going out of business. Their rugs were on sale for 65% off, with an additional 10% to those households who had purchased furniture from them in the past.
Thank goodness we decided to go. The guy in charge of the rug department really knew what he was talking about and knew where every rugs was located that could possibly flow with this chair. We had samples of our wood floors, along with material for the other chair/couch I am debating over and came prepared to purchase. He saw my patterned fabric and said "Oh, you have come to purchase a contemporary rug." Not really I added, but at this point I would take anything that remotely worked.
We looked at about a dozen before we found this one. It is a hand tied/knotted rug made from Tibetan wool and is so soft it is amazing. It is a transitional run, not really contemporary but a departure from traditional (oriental etc.). While it is all one color (shades of gold) the texture and pattern give it plenty of visual interest it was perfect.
This thing weighs a ton, but surprisingly enough they were able to fold it into the size of a large postage stamp. The young wool makes it very pliable, however it still took a huge guy to get it to the car. Mom and I managed to huff it into the house, though I am sure I left my spine in the garage on the trip in. We got it on the floor and walla......a perfect match. Now we have to order the couch, second chair and a new small side table.
