I spent the majority of my morning today potting up plants that Mom and I scored at a "dollar day" clearance at our local Lowes. I entitled this post "decorative deer food" as I am 99% positive that is what these potted plants will become.
Yesterday afternoon I noted that the caladiums I had planted in urns near our steps and walkway had suddenly "disappeared" along with all the leaves off our "deer resistant" Cora bells and purple asters, which were on the verge of breaking out in full bloom. The culprit, not a rabbit, not a squirrel but a herd of deer who have taken up residence in our drainage culvert.
My husband likens our flowerbeds and potted plants to a sort of "deer drive-thru" and say why would they go looking for food when you are purchasing and planting an excellent variety, which are a few mere steps away.....ugh!
Don't get me wrong I love the wildlife, but I called myself being proactive when I purchased all deer resistant plants only to find they they think they are delectable! I don't mind sharing and can take a hit on a plant or two, but must they desecrate our entire flowerbed???
So despite my doubts I have decided to plant up a few more pots and hope for the best. If there is anything that interest them it won't take long for them to begin their munch fest. So, we will have to wait to see what morning brings!
