European Tour - Cotillion Spring Ball

Our daughter attended her Cotillion Spring Ball on Saturday night. The theme for the evening was European Tour. I was slated to chaperon this gala, and was too thrilled given the fact we were enduring severe weather to include hail, seventy mile an hour winds and tornado's!
Our daughter is part of the second year class, and each spring they participate in a five course dinner where they are tasked to utilize all of their newly acquired knowledge to get through this seated affair.
We had no sooner dropped her off at the country club when the bottom fell out of some very black and angry rain clouds. Mom and I made it home only to find we were without power, which meant we had to "cool" our heels in the car until the rain slowed enough to get into the house. I was unable to enter via the garage and being saturated to the core would not be a good game plan as I was scheduled to be back at the country club for the dance portion of the event in less than (2) hours.
As luck would have it or more like as CDE would have it our power was not restored until 15 minutes before I was due out the door. I can tell you this applying make-up in the dark is a feat and thank goodness the lights came on or I could have easily ventured out of the house looking frightfully like a crazed raccoon!
The kids made it through the storm no worse for wear. They lost power for only a brief period and the Director's husband stated he was just impressed they all sat quietly and didn't begin screaming!
I was assigned refreshment duty. Have you every tried to fill champagne flutes with a salad dressing ladle a pewter one at that? I noted it had the word FRENCH on the handle, but I was sure that was not in honor of our European theme. My cohort and I were in serious trouble, but alas our Director's husband came to our rescue and dug up a punch ladle from somewhere and we were quickly back in business.
The dance went well the girls were beautiful and the guys were very handsome. Our daughter has already signed up to assist with next years classes. Hopefully, I will not be called upon to dip punch for any future events, but I wouldn't mind being in charge of the brownies...hee hee!
