Flashback Friday

Happy Birthday Lulu Belle!

It is hard to believe it has been (8) years since Lulu arrived on the scene. Our daughter wanted a puppy in the worst way. She was only (4) years old and in pre-k when she started her "puppy calendar countdown". We purchased a calendar and at the end of each week we wrote in what we would buy/do in preparation for her new puppy.

The first week she bought a purple food scoop, which had a puppy paw for the handle we still use this scoop. The second week she bought a food container (massive) to hold the not so big bag of food this little dog would eat in a month. The third week she bought bowls and a food mat and the fourth week she bought a purple collar with a matching purple lead.

I had researched breeds in an effort to find one that would work well with a smaller child, the Cairn Terrier breed won out on all fronts. I reached out to my friend who owns a Petland in Merritt Island, Florida inquiring as to whether she could get a Cairn for us she told me she could do one better than that and walla' Lulu. She had just received Lulu from her breeder, she was (4) months old and a grey brindle, we said hang a sold sign on the crate we are headed your way.

I was traveling for my position at that time and one of the sites I was over was in Jacksonville Florida. So, I scheduled a road trip and a detour to Merritt Island on my return from Jacksonville. Lulu was precious ( though I must admit I thought she was quite a homely puppy) it was "love" at first site for our daughter. So with a fresh bath for Lulu and cage in hand she headed out of Petland the proud owner of her very first dog.

We struggled with picking out her name bouncing Lucy, Honey and many others. Our daughter insisted that she be named Precious in honor of my sister dog. My sister suggested we name her Lulu and that seemed to be the perfect fit. Nothing would do for our daughter but to name her Precious, so we landed on a comprise and her AKC registered name is Precious Lulu Belle. It is such a big name for a little dog, but she is precious to us!

So Happy 8th birthday Precious Lulu Belle, we look forward to having you with us for at least another (8) more!
