And we call you Teacher?
While sitting in one of her academic classes, our daughter's teacher advised the class that he had prepared a PowerPoint presentation, which he wanted them to view. This teacher is very young and new to the school. In addition, it is his first year teaching middle school academics and as such he gives and takes a lot of ribbing from his students!
After viewing a few slides our daughter noted an issue with the plural form of a word. When referencing sheep in multiple forms he wrote "sheeps graze in the plateau"…..etc.
Of course Miss Thing decided this need to be rectified immediate and so she raised her hand. Upon acknowledgement she states “excuse me Mr. Teacher, but I believe you have used sheep incorrectly, to which he said “huh?” Our daughter stated “Sheep is one of those words where the singular form and the plural form are one in the same.” To which he responded “Oh, I didn’t realize”. Not missing a beat she said “Do you think it would be possible for you to correct that, because that is definitely going to bother me” (she is soooo her mother) to which he responded “O, you and your grammar!”
Upon viewing a few more slides she noted a word, which was underlined in red and so up went her hand. Upon being acknowledged she said “Excuse me Mr. Teacher, but that word has a red underline.” To which he said “Yes”. Again, without missing a beat she said “well in PowerPoint that red underline means the words is spelled wrong, that red line is pretty much a gimme that you haven’t done something right.” To which he responded “Oh, I didn’t know that are you sure?”
Wait for it…are you ready? Here was her response “Yes, Mr. Teacher I am sure a red line in PowerPoint and Word means the word is spelled wrong” and with a giggle along with the other students in the class she said “and we call you teacher!” “Oh, and Mr. Teacher I am going to need for you to fix that as well, because I can’t concentrate on the PowerPoint with that red line glaring at me.” to which he did!
Poor Mr. Teacher! At least he has a sense of humor and is not offended by being schooled by a group of (12) year olds!
