Rails to Trails Greenway

It was a beautiful day on Sunday with the high being just shy of 69 degrees. Coming off all the snow, ice and cold weather it was a welcome relief. My mother suggested we head out to the new rails to trails greenway area, which opened at the end of last year. This is 3.6 miles of paved walking trails, which follow the lines of the old railroad tracks.
They have completed phase 1 of the park and it is beautiful. They have covered bridges, wide paved paths and plenty of plants and animals to look at while you walking. We saw chipmunk relay races, opossum, field mouse (dead...so sorry poor fella) and patches of snow that were trying desperately to hang on to what remains of winter.
I suggested we walk Zone B as it said it was 2.6 miles. I thought not bad 1.3 miles each way we will make it a leisurely stroll it should be fun. Nope, it was 2.6 miles each way and while we had absolutely no issues walking the gentle slopes of the path on our outbound stretch, the 2.6 miles to get back to our car were a little tough. All in all we walked close to 6.0 miles, so much for a short Sunday stroll.
I have included a photo show so you can see what the area looks like. No doubt it will be more beautiful once spring hits. Take note of the moss covered rocks, there were some really neat formations.
