It is hard to believe another summer has come and gone, but that is the reality we faced this morning when the alarm clock shocked me with a wake-up call at 0600! It was time for the new school year to begin, and with that I saw our "baby" take off for her first day of seventh grade.
Last night her tongue was loose on both ends as my mother would say as her anticipation grew. She was so excited to be going back to school and the opportunity to be with her friends and of course meet a few new ones as well.
She received a call from the Intermediate School Principal asking if she would be interested in acting as a school ambassador to a new student. She made sure to tell me that she had to be at school early ( like I am the one who would really be holding her up) as she had a new student to meet and greet!
We arrived at the time prescribed. She found her new locker, stowed her stuff and was off on her merry way to fulfill her "ambassador" duties! I picked her up after cheer practice and she was more than willing to share the details of her day, which I was glad to hear.
She likes her teachers, she is excited that they have a snack period between 2nd and 3rd period. She has to climb lots of stairs to get from one class to another. Her chorus teacher is great and will take them on field trips. Her Life Studies teacher will permit them to drink and eat in class as long as they aren't messy, and she was issued a PE locker with her very own lock and everything!
It was a great first day....I hope today sets the tone for the rest of the school year!
